IIF Insight - Venezuela: Risk for Banks Continues to Increase

The government has intervened in seven small banks. While such action has contained the risk of a systemic crisis, an increasingly challenging economic and financial environment is bound to continue to put pressure on banks' performance. Amid heightened political uncertainty, nationalization of private banks cannot be ruled out at some point in the future.
