IIF Inaugural Africa Financial Summit

The IIF Inaugural Africa Financial Summit was held November 11-13, 2012 in Cape Town, South Africa, and hosted by Jacko Maree, Group Chief Executive of Standard Bank.

The meeting was the IIF’s first high level gathering of financial leaders with a special focus on Sub-Saharan Africa, and attracted a large number of CEOs and senior executives of the leading financial institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as high-level policymakers and representatives of global firms active in the region.

The meeting began with an informal dinner on Sunday, November 11 and proceeded with business sessions on Monday and Tuesday, concluding with a lunch on Tuesday, November 13. Keynote speakers included H.E. Pravin Jamnadas Gordhan, Minister of Finance, National Treasury, Republic of South Africa; Dr. Sarah Alade, Deputy Governor, Economic Policy, Central Bank of Nigeria; and Lesetja Kganyago, Deputy Governor, South African Reserve Bank.

The Summit included a number of Roundtable discussions led by speakers from among the senior executives of global and African firms. Topics addressed included progress and prospects for Africa’s economies, deepening financial markets in Africa, regional banking issues, investment opportunities and risks in the African economies, and regional implications for the new global bank regulation and supervision framework.
