IIF Review of the 2012 Basel Work Program
Over the past three years, the Basel Committee has been extremely active in issuing new standards and guidelines in order to address what its members see as shortcomings of the previous Basel framework exposed by the financial crisis. 2012 looks to be no different, even as the emphasis of the group’s work is shifting from finalizing standards to ensuring consistent interpretation and implementation of the agreed rules.
While the Basel Committee does not release an official work program, it (and its members) often makes statements about ongoing work and possible future publications. Below you will find a review prepared by the IIF staff of the projects currently being developed by the Basel Committee. This information is subject to change, as deadlines and priorities will sometimes shift due to developments in financial markets and policymaking discussions and debates.
