FRT Episode 22: Erste CEO Andreas Treichl talks Innovation

FRT is joined by Andreas Treichl, Erste Group CEO and a member of the IIF Board of Directors, at Erste’s campus headquarters in Vienna. On the first anniversary of Europe’s Open Banking initiative, Andreas shares his buoyant views on what the 2nd Payments Services Directive (PSD2) and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) mean for ensuring the protection of data and for the delivery of new services and offerings to customers.

With Erste’s new ‘George’ digital platform, Andreas sees great opportunity to innovate in a customer-centric manner. He highlights the opportunity to partner with other providers (including start-ups and potentially other banks), in using the bank’s platform and customer reach as a way to connect innovative thinking to end-users.

In highlighting opportunities to more effectively serve customers, Andreas’ vision likens Erste as a “financial health company,” where the bank is a skilled practitioner, sourcing potential solutions form both inside and beyond the bank. He simultaneously sees GDPR as raising the bar for other sectors to emulate the levels of customer data protection that banks have historically ensured.
