Pablo Urbiola is a Policy Advisor in Regulatory Affairs at the IIF, where he focuses on the digital transformation of the financial system, including the application of new technologies and emerging services and business models.

Pablo was seconded to the IIF in April 2018 from BBVA, where he was a Senior Economist at the Digital Regulation team of BBVA Research. In his capacity, he helped the multinational Spanish banking group to define its regulatory strategy on digital matters and anticipate the implications of regulatory and policy challenges. He covered a broad range of issues, including the financial stability implications of digital financial services, the design of regulatory sandboxes, the regulation of open banking and digital platforms, and the competition policy challenges of online markets.

He has been an invited lecturer in master programs at IE Business School and Afi School of Finance.

Education

Pablo holds a double bachelor's degree in Economics and Journalism from the Carlos III University of Madrid and a Master of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
