As a Consultant Senior Advisor to the Institute of International Finance, Laurence has led the drafting of IIF submissions to the Financial Stability Board, European Commission and Federal Reserve Board and other bodies on global stablecoins, crypto-assets, central bank digital currencies, and cross-border payments. He has also drafted or contributed to numerous briefing notes and reports, including on decentralized finance, cloud computing and digital assets. He also led the drafting of the IIF’s 2022 Principles for Digital Trust Networks.

Also practicing as a barrister in Melbourne, Australia, he has published numerous articles on financial regulation, as well as a book on AI, robotics and law through the University of Michigan Press.

Education

Laurence holds a Bachelor of Laws with Honours and a Bachelor of Arts with Honours, both from the University of Melbourne. He also undertook the Fintech short online course at Harvard in 2019, gaining a 99.5% Grade Point Average. He speaks Spanish and French alongside English.
