Tariq Khan

Research Analyst

Tariq Khan is a Research Analyst in the Global Macroeconomics department, currently supporting work on our Capital Flows Report, Global Macro Views, Economic Views, EM Capital Flows Tracker, EM Growth Tracker and EM Bank Lending Survey, while maintaining our renowned capital flows and global growth databases. Additionally, he contributes to publications on Latin America and assisted in the expansion of coverage to frontier economies in the region. Furthermore, Tariq is responsible for Trinidad and Tobago research and data.

Prior to joining the IIF, Tariq developed his career at the World Bank doing financial modelling and at the Ontario Ministry of Finance in the Economic and Revenue Forecasting and Analysis Branch. He is a citizen of both the twin island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Canada.

Education

Tariq holds an M.A. in International Economics and Finance from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), graduating 2nd in his class. There, his capstone project evaluated the potential of offsetting a controlled depreciation of the Trinidad and Tobago dollar with a reduction in VAT on imports. At undergraduate level, he also studied International Economics and Finance at Ryerson University placing 1st in his graduating class and winning the Carla Cassidy and William Henry Pope Awards for the highest CGPA across the faculty after 3 academic years of study.
