We hosted the second installment of the new IIF series of discussions focused on China. The webcast looked at the difficulties China may face in its economic recovery against the backdrop of a U.S. presidential election year. Can we expect a détente on U.S.-China trade frictions in a COVID-19 world? Will concerns about supply chains bring manufacturing back onshore to the U.S.? Will tensions in the tech sector continue to worsen in the face of national security concerns? How might the two presidential candidates play the “China card” and how would this be received in Beijing? These and other questions were tackled by Gene Ma, IIF Head of China Research, who moderated the event, and featured: Amb. Craig Allen, President of the U.S.-China Business Council; Mr. Michael Hirson, Practice Head, China and Northeast Asia, at Eurasia Group; and Dr. Li-Gang Liu, Chief China Economist at Citi.
