As part of the IIF's Digital Finance Webinar Series, we were delighted to host the DG-FISMA Retail Payments Strategy webinar, which took place on Wednesday, May 6 at 4:00 pm Brussels / 3:00 pm London / 10:00 am New York.

Overview was presented by Eric Ducoulombier, Head of Unit, FSMA/B3, Retail Financial Stability, European Commission and Ceu Pereira,Retail Financial Stability, European Commission, which was followed by Q&A and discussion.

The EU s retail payment strategy consultation focuses on how to address 4 key objectives:

  • (i) Fast, convenient, safe, affordable and transparent payment instruments, with pan-European reach and "same as domestic" customer experience;
  • (ii) An innovative, competitive, and contestable European retail payments market;
  • (iii) Access to safe, efficient, and interoperable retail payments systems and other support infrastructures; and
  • (iv) Improved cross-border payments, including remittances, facilitating the international role of the euro.
