Pier Carlo Padoan became Chairman of UniCredit in April 2021. He was Minister of Economy and Finance and Member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Republic from February 2014 to May 2018. He is retired Full Professor in Economics at the La Sapienza University in Rome and has pursued a high standing academic and institutional career both in Italy and internationally including: the University of Urbino, the College of Europe both in Bruges and Warsaw, the Université Libre de Bruxelles, the Universidad National de la Plata in Buenos Aires, the Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, and the University of Tokyo. He is currently Vice President of the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI), Board member of the Institute of International Finance (IIF), Member of the Luiss Institute for European Analysis and Policy (LEAP), and member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Italian Banking Association (ABI). In 2021 he was also appointed member of the Board of the Istituto Luigi Einaudi per gli Studi Bancari, Finanziari e Assicurativi (ISTEIN) and of the Committee for Corporate Governance of the Borsa Italiana. He is currently Vice-Chairman of the European Financial Services Round Table (EFR) and Chairman of the Comitato degli Operatori di Mercato e degli Investitori (COMI). He holds the role of member of the European Banking Group (EBG), of the Executive Committee of the Associazione fra le Società Italiane per Azioni (Assonime) and of the Executive Board of the Federazione Banche Assicurazioni e Finanza (FeBAF). In May 2022 he became Chairperson of the High-Level Group on Financing Sustainability Transition, which is part of the High-Level Groups on EU Policy and Innovation. He previously served as Chief Economist and Deputy Secretary General at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
