As Head of Applied Risk Research and Analytics at OSFI, Mate has responsibility for macro risk assessment at OSFI, and currently chairs OSFI’s External Risk Committee. His accountabilities include surveillance, research, and prioritization of external risks, and encompasses the publication of the Annual Risk Outlook, implementation of the Domestic Stability Buffer, the Minimum Qualifying Rate, and the Macro Stress Test. Mate joined OSFI in 2009 and has led the Market and Liquidity Risk Division, was Lead Supervisor for a DSIB, and was the head of the Financial Risk Group. Mate represents OSFI on several key international committees including the Macro Prudential Committee of the IAIS, and the Working Group on Margin Preparedness at the FSB. He was a past member of the steering committee at the BIS’ International Data Hub, and the Risk and Vulnerabilities Assessment Group of the BCBS. Prior to joining OSFI Mate worked in Capital Markets as a trader primarily in currencies and commodities for over a decade and has an MBA from the Ivey Business School at Western University. Mate also sits on the U of T Rotman Masters of Financial Risk Management’s Advisory Board.
