Richard Heffernan

Director, European Membership

As Director of European Membership at the Institute of International Finance (IIF), Richard focuses on the engagement and retention of the IIF’s nearly 150 member firms in Europe as well as recruitment of new members throughout the region which includes Emerging Europe and Turkey. Previously, Richard served as Deputy Director of both the IIF Global Membership and Events Departments.

At the European Alliance for Innovation, he was a senior manager charged with building community around the IT research and innovation value chain. Prior roles include Vice President, Conferences and Membership at the International Economic Development Council and Vice President, Conferences at Equals Three Communications. Previously at the US Agency for International Development, he led a team which supported various aspects of NGO capacity building in developing countries. Richard began his career at the American Bankers Association.

Education

Richard received a B.A. from the College of Arts and Sciences at Georgetown University with a major in English Literature and a minor in Spanish Literature. He graduated Cum Laude. He also received a bilingual MBA from the Instituto de Estudios Superiores de la Empresa (IESE) at the University of Navarra in Barcelona, Spain.
