Episode 89: Advanced Analytics to Mitigate COVID Spread with Banco de Credito BCP

Juan Taboada, who leads the Advanced Analytics Center of Expertise at Banco de Crédito (BCP), and his colleagues Diego Escobar, Senior Analytics Translator, and Luisa Quispe, Senior Data Scientist at BCP’s Advanced Analytics Center of Expertise, join us on FRT to discuss their use of data and advanced analytics capabilities to reduce the spread of COVID amongst BCP’s employees across Peru.

The Center both provides analytics to BCP and the rest of the businesses of Credicorp Group, as well as generates value with initiatives that challenge the status quo with the use of advanced analytics and the mission to help create a data driven organization. Juan highlights that the current COVID-19 pandemic initially caused a sudden decrease in the model performance of ML models, and his team saw this as an opportunity to use the team’s expertise in projects to help minimize the spread of COVID within the firm.

Diego and Luisa walk us through the development of the project in the early days of the pandemic last year, and the criticality of data quality and data collection during the developmental phase. Diego discusses the initial implementation, and the challenges around deployment. Luisa describes the model used, and the assistance they got from MIT prior to deployment.

Juan also discusses the role of advanced analytics to make financial inclusion projects more viable.
