Briefing Note: DataTalk 4 - Data Ethics

The fourth session of the IIF’s DataTalk forum, our interactive discussion forum with knowledge partner the Oliver Wyman Forum, focused on the ethical use of data, building on the IIF’s recently published Data Ethics Charter, which aims to outline principles for ethical handling of customer data. This note provides a brief summary of the key themes that emerged in our discussion, noting that this was conducted under the Chatham House rule, and comments are unattributed.

Participants in this forum highlighted the importance of trust, transparency, and building an ethical culture around data use, both internally and externally. Participants also discussed the need to operationalize ethics to ensure the data used is fit for purpose, and the need to define ethical principles, such as fairness, in a dynamic environment.
