On December 14, the IIF responded to the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Federal Insurance Office request for comment on a potential Federal insurance response to catastrophic cyber incidents. The IIF believes that there is a need for a further comprehensive study of whether and how the Federal government could and should address various potential catastrophic cyber incidents that are beyond the risk appetite and capacity of the private cyber insurance market before making a definitive judgment as to whether and when a Federal response is appropriate.
