Building on the tremendous success of the previously held Sustainable Finance Summits, we are pleased to have hosted our flagship 2023 IIF Sustainable Finance Summit in Tokyo on April 5-6, 2023. We are delighted to have had the support of the Japanese Financial Services Agency (JFSA), as well as the leading financial institutions in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region, for what was an important and timely event.

Similar to peers across the globe, governments and businesses in Asia have pledged to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in the coming decades. The region accounts for nearly half the world’s carbon emissions due to its diverse economies, rapid growth, and heavy reliance on fossil fuels, therefore a successful transition in Asia will be a critical element in the global fight against climate change. Managing climate risk and ensuring a policy and regulatory environment that enables transition finance opportunities—including the climate-resilient infrastructure and new green technology required—will be essential.  Due to Japan’s ambitious climate targets for 2030 and 2050 it has long been a global leader in energy efficiency and innovation, exceling in areas like hybrid electric vehicles, solar photovoltaics, smart grids, carbon-free fuels, and offshore wind. The 2023 IIF Sustainable Finance Summit brought together policymakers, regulators, environmental experts, and global financial firms to discuss these critical issues impacting the industry.
